Over 40% of victims are People of Color
In forensics, investigators screen the victims’ bruises to provide insight regarding the severity of the attack. The age of the bruise can be used as evidence in court to help bring offenders to justice. Medical professionals can also use this information to better serve patients and monitor the bruise healing process.
The current gold standard to perform hematology remains the traditional coloration guide, a standard of well documented bruises on light skin in which photographs of the victims’ bruises are compared against. This method, however, has an accuracy as low as 55% - only slightly better than a coin flip.
Portable Bruise Spectroscopy Across ALL Skin Tones
Our end goal is to supply forensic and medical professionals with a portable multispectral device designed to non-invasively capture the reflectance spectra of the bruise. This information allows us to provide a quantitative measurement of the age of the bruise, making bruise information more meaningful.
