The Team
Engineered from the Ground Up
DermaVision Technologies began as a BME undergraduate-led project under the mentorship of Dr. Elliot Botvinick.
Starting from scratch, inspired students designed a proof-of-concept device, created skin models to mimick bruising,
and established basic image processing techniques for analyzing acquired data.
The team grew to host a mix of passionate undergraduates and recent alumni.
We were successful in creating a portable prototype and became IRB-approved to perform pre-clinical imaging in collaboration with the UCI Trauma Center.
The 2023-24 BME Senior Design Team went on to earn the Dean's Choice Award at the UCI Engineering Annual Design Review,
and won second place in their category at the 2024 Stella Zhang New Venture Competition.
The project has since expanded to include students across the School of Engineering, and rebranded officially as DermaVision Technologies.
Kicking off the 2024-25 academic year, DermaVision Technologies was honored to present their work at the BMES 2024 Annual Meeting,
placing third in the Medtronic Student Design Competition in the Mechanical and Electrical track.
The team was awarded $3,000 from the Interdisiplinary Research Team program hosted by CALIT2 and UROP
Our diverse team is working diligently towards a minimum viable product, and continue gathering data in conjunction with the UCI Trauma Center.
We are looking forwards to displaying more of our progress in the near future!
